|Sara Assef||Biology Major, Spanish and Neuroscience Minors||
Hello! My name is Sara Assef, I am a senior at the University of Kentucky with a major in Biology and minors in Spanish and Neuroscience. I love traveling, reading, swimming, playing the piano, and spending time with family and friends. Additionally, I am a STEMCats LLP Peer Mentor.
Having been a former LLP student, I had the opportunity to connect with students, professors, and community partners through my participation in activities that broadened my horizons of the vast possibilities avaliable as a student in STEM. I strongly believe I can use my own personal experiences in the program to engage new members.
I hope that as a STEMCats Peer Mentor I can aid each of my mentees to feel as if they have a well-rounded undergraduate experience. Furthermore, I want to provide each member with the guidance and tools to achieve success in and out of the classroom.
Hey guys! My name is Morgan. I'm a sophomore biology and chemistry double major on the prepharmacy track. I was a STEMCat last year, and I'm a Peer mentor this year because I think the program is a great way to make connections with a wide range of people.

My name is Emily Ponder and I am a junior. I am a STEM Cats Undergraduate Instructional Assistant and a neuroscience major. I am originally from Hot Springs, Arkansas, but moved to Lexington when I was 8. (I have always been a cats fan.) As my family is very important to me, I stayed here in town for college. Luckily enough, I was offered a shot to be a STEM Cat during my time at BCTC and am now learning the roles of leadership in my third semester with STEM.

Research and Study Abroad
I have studied abroad twice with Western Kentucky University. My first trip was a little less than a month long, spent in England, studing English Literature. Most of this trip was spent in London and Grantham, England, but also took day trips to other cities. My second excursion was two weeks in Costa Rica studying Costa Rican Biodiversity. This trip also had an embedded research project, so I spent a week in a cloud forest with a couple of classmates taking measurements, analyzing, and studying differences in growth patterns in different forest successions and its impact on the environment of the area.
In addition, (separate from my experiences abroad) I volunteered in a macrobiology lab on Western Kentucky University's campus. This was not a formal research project for me, but I aided a professor in his research on insect biodiversity and systematics by sorting through insect collection samples.
